Migungani Lodge

Migungani Lodge is a typical and relaxed colonial property positioned next to the village of Mto Wa Mbu right in the centre of Tanzania’s Northern National Parks, 5 minutes drive from Lake Manyara, 45 minutes from the Ngorongoro Crater and 50 minutes from Tarangire National Park.
Mto Wa Mbu, situated halfway between the Masai territory of the Rift Valley and the cultivated area above the western side of the Rift, is a trading centre for the produces grown in the luxuriant cultivations at the foot of the Ngorongoro Crater.
The village is an old settlement situated in the centre of a fertile natural oasis.
The crops deriving from its banana plantations are destined to Kenya and Tanzania’s big cities while rice produce usually sold at the local market is also offered to traders from the Country’s other regions.
Because of its favorable central position with respect to the surrounding National Parks, Migungani Lodge is the perfect starting point for trtekking, excursions and all kinds of safari, both on foot and by car.
From the village of Mto Wa Mbu starts the road that takes you, in just five hours, to Lake Natron and its uncontaminated landscape.
Only the area surrounding Lake Turkana could possibly be compared to that of Lake Natron, but to reach it a 5 day drive through impervious territory is necessary.
Besides, these days, Lake Turkana is considered to be a dangerous area because of conflicts between local tribes for the possession of land and cattle.
Along the way to Lake Natron you encounter the Engaruka archeological site, the rice fields of Selela and a beautiful forest of enormous Euforbia trees.
The lodge itself is equipped with all necessary facilities: telephone, electricity (generator in case of black-out), warm water, fridges, mosquito nets at the windows and above the beds.
Spacious rooms and double tents with private bathrooms are available. The place is extremely pleasant: the building is situatedright in a glade right in the middle of a little wood of acacia trees. The lodge offers Meditarranean, International and Swahili homemade cooking prepared with farm products biologically produced. Menus can also be altered upon request in order to satisfy specific dietary needs.
From the lodge it is possible to take a long and relaxing walk along the banks of Lake Manyara from where you can observe local fishermen engrossed in their everyday activities and different species of aquatic birds while, closer to the Park’s border, you can easily admire a diverse range of animals from the savannah.
For this reason it is not possible to make these excursions without the presence of an expert guide.
The stay in Migungani Lodge during safari organized in Tanzania’s Northern Parks allows guests to travel without luggage thus avoiding the inconvenience of having to do and undo their bags every day.
Furthermore transfers are less tiring because spaced out by small excursions which allow for a relaxing holiday and offer the chance to enter in contact with the local people, their traditions and ways of life.
Guests are followed and assisted always by the same personnel which, kind and attentive to your needs, will welcome you in a serene and familiar environment making you feel at home. Daily laundry facilities are also available.
Migungani Lodge is particularly suited for both children and for those of you who are children no longer and seek a relaxing holiday without having to renounce that spark of adventure which lights the life of each of us.
